
Itinerary:
Days 1 2 and 3
Explore New Zealand’s Central North Island, an area of geological wonder and cultural diversity.
Travel to Waitomo and explore an underground world of stalagmites, caverns and glow-worm grottos.
In Rotorua, marvel at the sheer beauty created by the region’s volcanic past and enjoy the cultural heartland of a nation. Learn how the indigenous people learned to live with and harness geothermic activity. Visit geothermal reserves and marvel at their kaleidoscope of colours.
Then depart for Napier, the ‘Art Deco Capital of the World’, and enjoy Hawkes Bay Wine Country’s wonderfully fresh produce.
Days 4 5 and 6
Travel through some of the finest rural country in New Zealand, through a geological enigma of the Manawatu Gorge, and through to Wellington. In the Capital, enjoy sights including Te Papa, the National Museum of New Zealand.
Savour the night life, then it’s across the Cook Strait, through the scenic Marlborough Sounds and down the wild Kaikoura Coastline, with all its wildlife to Christchurch. Enjoy a day of leisure, doing whatever takes your fancy in Christchurch.
Day 7 8 and 9
Enjoy the journey south to Dunedin, via Mt Cook and Omarama.
Take in spectacular scenes of the Southern Alps, alpine lakes and Mt Cook, with the option of a flight-seeing tour through the towering peaks of the Main Divide.
In Dunedin, learn about New Zealand’s Scottish heritage, and then travel to Te Anau, nestled on the shore of a beautiful lake with the same name.
Day 10 11 and 12
Prepare to be awed by nature! Travel into the Te Wahi Pounamu World Heritage Area, a wilderness sculptured by ancient glaciers and clashing tectonic plates.
Cruise on Milford Sound before heading towards the adventure capital of the world – Queenstown.
After a day of free time, we drive west, winding through lakes and mountains, upwards to Haast Pass. We cross through the Main Divide and drop into the wild West Coast.
Day 13 14 and 15
The West Coast, it’s like New Zealand’s last frontier! Rather wild and a little isolated, the scenery is spectacular. Travel north with stunning views of the southern alps, rain forest and the coast. Take a flight up onto a glacier and feel the cool mountain chill of the alpine air.
We continue north to the city of Nelson, and relax! Arts, crafts, wineries, cafes, adventure, beaches, walks, whatever you find relaxing!
Day 16 17 and 18
Crossing the Cook Strait, enjoy the smell of the sea as we ply our way through the Marlborough Sounds and cross the Cook Strait to Wellington.
We enjoy an evening in the Capital City, and the following day, mosey up the Kapiti Coast, through the Manawatu to the Tongariro World Heritage Area. Staying a night in this conservation area is something very special! The following morning, we depart for Auckland, past Lake Taupo, and upward towards the Bombay Hills, and Auckland.
And now, it's time to say "Haera Ra" (farewell) to Aotearoa: the "Land of the long white cloud". We hope your Pure New Zealand Tour has left you with plenty of great memories to reflect on in the years to come, of your spectacular adventure Down Under!!
