There are plantings of perennials and walkways with floral borders. Spacious lawns are fringed with trees overlooking a large man-made lake. The garden is a longterm project and cared for by the owners.

Plantings covering almost half a hectare include native trees, a woodland garden with ferns, and a cottage garden with perennials and roses. Subtropical plantings, bromeliads and other tender plants are here too. There is also a ponga house, a vegetable garden, a large collection of succulents, a pond and water feature and a gravel garden where small plants are grouped. A special feature of the garden is the use of local blue stone rock for retaining walls and for the entrance way.
Ayrilles Gardens - One of the great gardens of New Zealand. 4.8 hectares (12 acres) with ponds, waterfalls, spacious lawns, mature trees and glimpses of the sea.
