4 DAY TOUR: BAY OF ISLANDS DISCOVERY
Explore the Beauty of the Birth Place of New Zealand
The Bay of Islands is an aquatic playground lavishly furnished with 144 islands and a myriad of secluded beaches. It is also a place of historical significance. Māori settled here early in their migrations and it is the birthplace of European colonisation in the country. The Treaty of Waitangi was signed in 1840, establishing New Zealand as a nation of the British Empire.
We know and love New Zealand, we want you to love it too!
Day 1 - Arrival - Auckland - Omapere
"Haere Mai" - Welcome to Auckland, Aotearoa (New Zealand)! Imagine an urban environment where everyone lives within half an hour of beautiful beaches, hiking trails and a dozen enchanted holiday islands. Add a sunny climate, a background rhythm of Polynesian culture and a passion for outstanding food, wine and shopping – you’re beginning to get the picture of Auckland. Auckland’s blend of islands, Polynesian culture, glistening harbours and modern city environment creates an unbelievable lifestyle ranked amongst the best in the world.
Our tour departs Auckland, with its impressive waters and as we cross the Harbour Bridge you will see why Auckland is known as 'The City of Sails.' We journey further north on through the spectacular West Coast to Omapere on the south shore of the Hokianga Harbour.
Matakohe Kauri Museum – The story of our pioneering settlers through the lens of the award-winning Kauri Museum.
Footprints - a life changing twilight experience led by our Maori Guide who will brief you on the strict protocol before entering the forest. Stepping into our special world you will be walking under the same stars that guided our ancestor Kupe to New Zealand. On the paths of the forest we meet trees that were already giants before Kupe’s arrival, and that were standing before the birth of Christ. Tane Mahuta, the giant kauri tree is known as the “God of the Forest.”
Day 2 - Omapere - Paihia
After breakfast we board our coach and pass along the shores of the beautiful Hokianga Harbour to the breath-taking Bay of Islands destination, Paihia.
Waitangi Maori Meeting House and magnificent War Canoe – Waitangi is the birthplace of New Zealand and thus the area is full of New Zealand history. The Bay of Islands is home to 144 islands and renowned as a favourite playground for diving, sailing, fishing and enjoying water activities.
Today there is time for a rehearsal should your Director require this. The rest of the day is at leisure for you to explore this beautiful part of the world.
Day 3 - Paihia - Kerikeri - Haruru - Pahia
Today is a relaxing/leisure day with time available for rehearsals should your Director require. We head out to Kerikeri, Northland’s favourite subtropical town, famous for its lifestyle, historical attractions, great art and craft galleries, as well as its horticulture and farmer’s market.
A handmade chocolate factory - many alfresco dining areas and vineyards.
Kerikeri Mission House – essential sights for heritage lovers, completed in 1822 as part of the Mission Station by the Church Missionary Society, and is New Zealand’s oldest surviving building. It is sometimes known as Kemp House.
The Stone Store – the oldest surviving unique stone building in New Zealand designed and built by one of our first missionaries between 1832 and 1836.
On our return to Paihia we visit Haruru Falls.
Day 4 - Paihia – Whangarei - Auckland
After travelling further south on our journey back to Auckland, we enjoy a break in the seaside city of Whangarei, Northland’s largest city where we view the Whangarei Falls, one of the best loved and well known landmarks.
'Hole in the Rock cruise’ - Unpack your sea legs and board a catamaran as you sail out to Cape Brett.’ Many tourists say this is ‘must do’ activity when in New Zealand! You are usually joined by dolphins, and possibly whales along with other marine life.
Historic Town of Russell – The Hole in the Rock Catamaran can drop you in Russell for an hour to explore its quaint buildings; a seaside setting full of cafes, restaurants and art galleries gives Russell a truly romantic quality before you board the catamaran for your return to Pahia.
Kiwi North – In Kiwi North you will see real live kiwis foraging for food as they would in the wild. You can hold a Tuatara, New Zealand’s most iconic reptile and last living relative of the dinosaurs, before continuing to Auckland.
