Welcome to the Birth Place of New Zealand

Northland is a story of two coastlines - the west coast is rugged and soulful while the east coast is relatively more sophisticated and urban. Starting in Auckland you can head to Northland before or after the Symposium.

Refreshing your soul and rehearsing in the beautiful Bay of Islands after your flight, before returning to the excitement of Symposium.  Or winding down after the event and taking in some spectacular scenery.  Northland has so much to offer.

Day 1 - Arrival - Auckland - Omapere

"Haere Mai" - Welcome to Aotearoa (New Zealand)! Our 3 day tour starts by departing Auckland, 'The City of Sails.' As we cross the Auckland Harbour Bridge through the northern suburbs, you will get a first-hand view of Auckland’s America's Cup yachting course. Further north, we visit the award winning Matakohe Kauri Museum before traveling through the spectacular West Coast to Omapere on the south shore of Hokianga Harbour. Check into our Hotel and enjoy dinner.

This evening we experience a twilight encounter, Footprints; a life changing tour led by our Maori Guide who will brief you on the strict protocol before entering the forest. Stepping into our special world you will be walking under the same stars that guided our ancestor Kupe to New Zealand. On the paths of the forest we meet trees that were already giants before Kupe’s arrival, and that were standing before the birth of Christ. Tane Mahuta, the giant kauri tree is known as the “God of the Forest.”

Day 2 - Omapere - Paihia

After breakfast we board our coach and pass along the shores of the beautiful Hokianga Harbour to the breath-taking Bay of Islands ending in Paihia. We visit the magnificent Waitangi Maori Meeting House and large war canoe. Waitangi in the Bay of Islands is the birthplace of New Zealand and thus the area is full of New Zealand history. The Bay of Islands is home to 144 islands and renowned as a favourite playground for diving, sailing, fishing and enjoying water activities.

Today there is time for a rehearsal should your Musical Director require this. The rest of the day is at leisure for you to explore this beautiful part of the world. Check in to our hotel and enjoy dinner together at a local restaurant.

Day 3 - Paihia

Today we unpack our sea legs and board a catamaran for the 'Hole in the Rock cruise.’ This is a ‘must do’ activity when in New Zealand! As we sail out to Cape Brett we are usually joined by dolphins, and possibly whales along with other marine life. We visit the historic town of Russell and spend time exploring its quaint buildings; a seaside setting full of cafes, restaurants and art galleries gives Russell a truly romantic quality before we board the catamaran for our return to Pahia.

We start our travels to the south and enjoy a break in the seaside city of Whangarei - Northland's largest city. We visit Whangarei Falls, one of Whangarei’s best loved and well-known landmarks. Next we visit Kiwi North where you will see real live kiwis foraging for food as they would in the wild. You can hold a Tuatara, New Zealand’s most iconic reptile and last living relative of the dinosaurs, before continuing to Auckland where you check into your WSCM accommodation and prepare for a spectacular Symposium.
