Imagine standing on Broadway for the first time – all the theatre lights shining bright, the throngs of theatre goers bustling by and all the show posters shouting about musicals you have only watched from home or studied in class.
43 students from Saint Kentigern College in Auckland can now add this to their list of life achievements.
Our epic Saint Kentigern College’s tour across San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles had something for every member of their group; from Music to Dance to Acting… you’d imagine it might have been easy for one group to feel left out with so many specialties, but this tour was packed to the brim!
San Francisco took in the ODC Dance School, Performing Arts Centre and the Conservatorium of Music; then across to New York for the Lincoln Centre, Broadway Dance Centre, NYU Tisch, Apollo Theatre, Radio City Music Hall, and an Aladdin Workshop with the cast that was followed up with the Aladdin stage show itself!
One night these “Kiwi Kids” also found themselves rubbing shoulders with Katie Perry and Lionel Richie at a live taping of American Idol where they were front of stage.
The final stint over in Los Angeles saw the students having private lessons at the Millennium Dance Studios, Stella Adler Academy, Musician Institute School of Contemporary Music, and touring Walt Disney Concert Hall – wrapping up every students’ (and adults’) dream of a trip to Disneyland.
If you’re dreaming of a life in theatre, it is a truly life changing experience…packed full of learning opportunities, experiences never to be repeated and inspirational Moments That Matter… we know that these students and their teachers came back invigorated and ready to take on the world.
